Know the Chain of Survival!
The Chain of Survival refers to a chain of events that must occur in
rapid succession to maximise the chances of survival from Sudden Cardiac Arrest
DANGER - if possible remove the patient from water or electrical (safely for yourself), and check for any bleeding
SEND FOR HELP - ask anyone with you to call Emergency. If alone dial 000 and give location.
BREATHING -should be normal, not gasping or struggling for breath. If unresponsive, start CPR immediately
DEFIBRILLATION - if patient is unresponsive and not breathing normally, both CPR and defibrillation are required.
ADVANCED SUPPORT - CPR and Defibrillation should continue till Emergency Services arrive, or patient revives.
THE EARLIER THE CHAIN BEGINS AND PROGRESSES, THE GREATER CHANCE OF SURVIVAL.
